iTero™ Digital Impressions
Speed, Accuracy & Comfort
At Dr. Doug Orthodontics, we use iTero™ Digital Impressions to make orthodontic care faster, more accurate, and far more comfortable. With iTero technology, traditional putty impressions are no longer needed, meaning no messy materials, no gagging, and no unpleasant aftertaste.
Why Do We Use iTero Digital Scanning?
For treatments that rely on customized appliances such as clear aligners, palate expanders, and retainers, precision is essential. iTero digital scans capture highly detailed, three-dimensional images of your teeth and gums, allowing for accurate treatment planning and predictable results.
The level of detail achieved with an iTero scan is comparable to the difference between standard-definition television and high-definition video. The result is a clearer, more precise view of your smile that supports better orthodontic outcomes.
How Does the iTero Scanner Work?
The iTero system uses a small, handheld wand to capture a 3D image of your teeth and gums in just minutes. The scanner is non-invasive, and you can breathe, swallow, or pause at any time during the process. If you need to move or adjust, the scan can easily continue without compromising accuracy.
As the scan is taken, the 3D image appears on the screen in real time, allowing you to see your teeth from every angle. Because of the system’s precision, the need to repeat scans is rare.
How Does Digital Scanning Improve Treatment Planning?
Instead of shipping physical impressions to a lab, your digital scan is sent electronically and is available almost immediately. These scans integrate seamlessly with the digital planning systems we use, including Invisalign and Clarity aligner platforms.
Your digital model can also be used with advanced visualization tools, such as smile simulation software, to help show how your teeth may look after treatment is complete.
